Currently leading Rare, the studio responsible for Sea of Thieves, Duncan takes over as Alan Hartman, the present head of Xbox Game Studios, is set to retire at the month's end after a year in the position. With nearly 14 years at the helm of Rare, Duncan has significantly contributed to not just the acclaimed live-service pirate game but also the studio’s titles developed for Kinect.
His rich experience includes leadership roles at various studios such as Sumo Digital, Midway, and Codemasters. In his new capacity, Duncan will manage the array of teams under Microsoft's Xbox umbrella, which now includes the recently renamed Halo Studios, along with The Coalition, Turn 10, Playground Games, Rare, Obsidian, Ninja Theory, Compulsion Games, The Initiative, Double Fine, InXile, Undead Labs, World's Edge, and several others. Reporting to Matt Booty, the president of Game Content and Studios, Duncan has a vast responsibility ahead. Following Duncan's transition, his roles at Rare will be filled by Joe Neate, the executive project lead for Sea of Thieves, and Jim Horth, the studio director.
Neate, who has been with Rare since 2013 after his tenure at Sumo Digital and Midway, joins Horth, a veteran with over two decades of experience at Rare. Booty reflected on Hartman's impactful tenure, highlighting his career filled with innovation and a deep commitment to gaming. Hartman's journey with Microsoft began as a contractor in the early days of CD-ROM development in 1988. Throughout his career, he worked on numerous notable projects, from Age of Empires to leading Digital Anvil on Brute Force, and played a pivotal role in founding Turn 10. Hartman's leadership saw the creation of the Forza franchise, which includes 13 core titles and has established itself as a premier racing series globally.
His focus on accessibility has set new standards within the industry, and under his guidance, Xbox Game Studios has released several critically acclaimed titles this year while laying the groundwork for highly anticipated projects like Avowed and Fable. Acknowledging his journey, Hartman expressed gratitude for his time as a studio head, calling it both rewarding and challenging. He emphasized how much he enjoyed collaborating with studio leaders and their teams and stated it was a privilege to represent Xbox Game Studios. Regarding Duncan's upcoming role, Booty remarked that he will be dedicated to guiding studios in creating high-quality, unique gaming experiences, aiming for the development of successful franchises and expanding their reach through investment in new intellectual properties.

- Unraveling the Future: Dragon Age's Veilguard and Its Expansive Lore In the realm of Dragon Age, ideas and narratives continue to brew, promising a bright future for fans of the franchise. The creative director of Dragon Age: The Veilguard has expressed a wealth of inspiration and thoughts about the universe, emphasizing his constant engagement with the lore. With nearly a decade passed since the last installment, it seems there is no boundary to the creativity and storylines that could emerge in subsequent games.
Epler has shared that he envisions ample material for the development of five additional games within the beloved RPG series. Although he clarifies that these are merely foundational ideas rather than complete games, the potential remains exciting for what lies ahead in the Dragon Age saga.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard serves as a direct follow-up to 2014's Inquisition, yet Epler notes that its narrative direction is more reminiscent of 2009's Origins. The development team aims to blend elements of seriousness with humor, reflecting the varied emotional landscapes found in previous entries.
He contemplates the value of preserving a mix of tones, pointing out that even Origins included lighter moments, showcasing characters such as Alistair and Dog who provided comedic relief amid darker themes. This ongoing contrast is central to the storytelling approach in The Veilguard, as even the lighter characters encounter their share of sadness and struggle.
Participants will adopt the persona of a fully customizable protagonist named Rook in Veilguard, with the storyline commencing around the year 9:52 Dragon, roughly a decade following the events of Inquisition and its DLC. Set 22 years after the Battle of Ostagar that initiates Origins, the journey focuses on Solas's ambitions to dismantle the Veil, allowing demons to invade the realm. Alongside Rook, seven new companions will join the quest to thwart Solas and prevent the completion of his ritual.
With the excitement surrounding Veilguard's upcoming release on Halloween, now is the perfect opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich lore and timeline of Dragon Age, ensuring you are fully prepared for the adventure ahead.

- Trains, Pokémon, and Cinematic Creativity: Exploring the Unique Elements of Bullet Train Brad Pitt's Bullet Train has captured significant interest, not just for its impressive ensemble but also for its director. David Leitch skillfully crafted a narrative that kept audiences engaged due to its pure entertainment value. Even though the film may not have excelled in ratings, it certainly brought a lot to the table.
The film presented polarized responses. Viewers either adored it immensely or found it completely unrelatable. Fortunately, the latter group seems to be a minority. Many embraced the movie for what it was meant to be, even if the ratings were somewhat disappointing. Notably, the film paid tribute to various trains, including one inspired by Pokémon.
Japan has long been a place where the extraordinary becomes commonplace. With its advanced technology and strong sense of tradition, the nation effectively balances modernity and history. It's common to encounter themed cafés, trains, and stores across the country, particularly in Tokyo.
Our interpretation of Japan allows us the creative liberty to present narratives that challenge conventional norms. David Leitch elaborated on this concept in an interview, discussing how the film bent genres while remaining true to its core themes. It also aimed to offer an innovative perspective.
He emphasized how the film stretched the possibilities of what trains could symbolize, with one particular aspect being the introduction of Momomon. This character, cute yet fierce, emerged from the Pokémon universe.
Though Momomon may appear adorable, it shouldn't mislead fans about its menacing nature. David Leitch drew inspiration directly from Japan. While researching for Bullet Train and its conductors, he discovered a Pokémon-themed car on a Tokyo train.
This discovery spoke volumes about the quirky surprises one can encounter on a Tokyo train. The city's transit system embraces creativity in remarkable ways. From anime to celebrity idols, various forms of expression are celebrated. Leitch was particularly intrigued by an entire train car dedicated to Pokémon, solidifying his vision for Momomon.
At first glance, this reference might elude many viewers, but avid fans would recognize Momomon as a homage to Pokémon. The character's distinctiveness and the passion for entertainment contributed to the creation of such a compelling figure. Bullet Train is currently streaming on Hulu.
